Now Playing: Long Train Running

Martin Bell who hails from Chigwell Essex is best known as one half of the duo Bell and Spurling who had two top 10 hits with their famously self penned songs “Sven sven Sven” and “Goldenballs“ selling over 300,000 singles and appearing on numerous albums selling all over Europe. Martin has appeared on virtually every major TV entertainment show including two live appearances on Top of the Pops.

After becoming a session singer for 8 years with a soulful and powerful voice he began writing for other various artists. Martin eventually gained two major record deals as a solo artist with Warner Music and a publishing deal with Warner Chapel and MCS Music. Martin continues to write for new pop bands and still works with different producers on a regular basis. Martin has been a regular on TalkSport Radio for the last 7 years and it was Chris Tarrant when at Capital Radio that spotted his talents combining comedy lyrics and catchy melodies that eventually launched his career into the pop charts.

Martin also has a sound knowledge of radio, as he has performed four regional radio tours and had a regular Saturday slot at Capital Gold Radio on a show called Terry’s Turnstiles with comedian Terry Alderton. He later teamed up with Terry when they wrote the comedy pilot sketches “Pub Idol”, a spin on Pop Idol. This helped develop Martin’s writing and acting skills as he played a wide variety of characters.

Over the years Martin has been managed by different managers from Micky Most to PR guru Gary Farrow. Martin gained a lot of press coverage by the fact he was managed by one of his closest friends former England and Manchester United Striker Teddy Sheringham. Martin’s close relationship with Teddy opened many doors within the entertainment and football industry and that enabled Bell and Spurling to perform at various functions and to combine their two true passions of music and football. Martin is a lifelong football fan and still plays for the West Ham celebrity team and also for the rock band Iron Maiden which enables him to join them on their world tours.

More recently Martin’s drive and determination has seen him diversify in different areas helping manage and launch the successful band “The Ting Tings”. Martin then launched a successful regional celebrity magazine called IN magazine. This helped him start the now famous annual Duke of Essex Polo trophy which attracts a host of celebrities including Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster and is covered by the nationals and the glossy mags.

Martins ability to adapt to any situation whether it be comedy, drama or even hosting, shows what a versatile and talented character he is. Martin is currently working on a film script and also writing a new solo concept album which is already gaining interest due to its originality described as Frank Sinatra meets Fat Boy Slim!
